Three Mile Stream Circuit
Very nice overnight trip, but it's a long way in. I took a mountain bike as far as the Hurunui Swingbridge, which saved several hours each way. The track up McMillan Stream is quite rough and muddy but well marked. Saw a herd of deer on the saddle west of the hut.

What a marvellous little hut. I cycled in to the Hurunui Swingbridge and walked the McMillan Stream / Three Mile Stream loop from there. A lot of birdlife about, plus several deer on the saddle west of the hut. Track in good condition, and I found some thigh-deep mud on the saddle.

Dropped in on the way to Three Mile Stream Hut. I always underestimate the distance from Lake Taylor to here.

Sign of the Bellbird to Sign of the Kiwi -- rather desolate walk through burned scrub. Front came through with hail.

Outstanding views of the Rangitata River and Pudding Valley. Saw no one else but a hunter walking in at dusk.

Outstanding little hut. Perhaps one of our most accessible historic huts. Day walk, but I'll have to bring the family back next year.

Rainy morning with cloud clinging to the hills. Found an interesting little side track on rhe way back straight to the car park below the road.

Attacked by wasps near the road, not so fun. Otherwise, nice walk. The section through the bluffs just short of the tussock tops is loose and crumbly.

This campsite is currently overrun with mice. The beech mast season has boosted numbers. DOC do not poison in the area as kea eat the mice. Anyway I packed up at 11pm and left to camp at Lake Pearson instead to escape the scampering footsteps!
