If it wasn't cattle creek - it was going to be very hard! That was my first & only (instinctive) guess.

This lake lies at the less-visited of the two heads of this valley. Name the valley.

My 1st thought was the East Sabine but the scree (or lack of it in the photo) doesn't match.
So, now thinking down in the Huxley River area - Dingle Burn?; can't make that work, either.
Hoped this one might be a bit harder.
Was a long walk in from the carpark in soft snow. No hut in either branch of this catchment but there is one in the next valley down the range. Still a couple of miles to go from where the last pic was taken. Was pushing it with daylight by the time I got there - back up into the snow - over the saddle a bit right of centre in the 2nd pic.

Absolutely. Lake Hope at the head of Wye Creek (south branch) in the Remarkables. Heading to Two Mile Hut from the Remarkable ski field.
I reckon it’s an underrated day/weekend trip from the falls end up and over to the ski field especially if you do a side trip up Single Cone or sidle around the Queens Walk and drop down one of the 2 big chutes that take you back down to the highway.
It used to be my ‘go-to’ trip when I lived in QT and had limited time off.
Though I recall a day trip I did in winter once that ended with friendly ride down from Lake Alta to the ski base in a SnowCat because I got away seriously late and was mildly exhausted.
