Where is this?
Bit of a challenge since we can't go bush. Where is this photo (winner gets to go next).

Hint: the fenceline is the clue

It was an amazing trip in the last weekend of good snow cover of 2019. 60% on crampons - or at least on snow/ice. Walked the loop over to Two Mile Hut via Lake Hope then hopped over the divide to the head of Stewarts Creek and valley hopped across the heads of the Nevis-side valleys to Glenroy Racemans Hut. Then back over to the skifield.
When I left, people were skiing and snowboarding right down to the base. When I got back it was gravel all the way from the head basin. First stinking-hot days of the summer and it all melted.
Made for very tiring going in waist deep snow through those valley heads - crack-of-dawn starts, and seeking out the shade or rock and the shortest routes between them by afternoon! But absolutely beautiful country in those conditions. The best trip of the 2019-20 season despite being just a long-weekender. And there was serious competition for that title with the last leg of my Fiordland traverse and a couple of west coast trips in the year to compete with.

Sounds like a great outing
I confess I never ventured into the valleys over from Wye Creek. It became a bit of circuit over the years.
Summer was harsh going up that heat trap.
Winter with a full moon and a good freeze was magical.
I’ve dug several emergency snow caves up there due my youthful ability to bite off more than I could tramp.
It is ‘remarkable’ area, but l always wished that DOC would’ve build a hut up there.....just for me of course.
I suppose I better go next.
How do you insert a photo again?🙄
Amazing. The last few years i have approached Lake Hope from three directions including a daywalk to Hawkes Pass barely two months ago. The very place you've taken the photo from. And i still didn't get it. Mind you there wasn't as much snow as in your picture.

Yeah, well I've not been there (yet) but I did look at that loop on Routeguides and missed it completely!

There’s a hut tucked away in the bush at the bottom of this side valley.
It’s one of about 5 huts that are spaced either side of this well known river trudge.

is the link you want
It looks like the first proper tramp I did after coming back to the south island which would be the upper Waimakariri Beyond that Im guessing but it looks a lot like the view from Anti Crow towards Crow Hut.
Thanks Geeves
Not quite sorry
A bit further south still
You can ‘technically’ drive to it on a farm track/mapped road but that’s changed over recent years with a wash-out and farmer reluctance to grant access.
Recall the Rangitata / Havelock being more gravel and less grass, so I was thinking the Raikaia ... but after that it'd be a 1 in X guess for the hut! Not Reischek or Louper which are the only two I know.
In the right river, just back a bit
