Kaimai Mamaku - Advice needed

Hi people, I am keen to do some of the tracks in the Kaimai Mamaku probably from K Gorge into Dickeys and on from there or from the Top of Lindemann as a start point. I am new to tramping but fit. How many days would it take to reach Te Aroha and am I best to do some of the loop tracks and learn the area first a bit before. I hear there is some spectacular history in there I have looked around up the Waitawheta river before but no further than Dickeys flat. Keen to hear your views. Leon
If you use the track search option on this site you will find about 20 options posted that should satisfy. The Kaimais are a good place to start.
Cheers BigPaul, there are some good looking tracks in there and quite a few huts too.
I have a track guide in here from Lindemann Rd to Waitawheta Hut at http://www.tramper.co.nz/?4032 and also a gpx file for other tracks to Waitawheta Hut http://www.tramper.co.nz/?4029 There is a new track in from the Wairongamai which I havn't done yet. DOC can give you information about that. I believe it is about 8 hours from the Wairongamai to the hut.
Sounds all good, now cant wait to get in there. Thanks pmcke
Kaimais are a great place to get some experience, you are never far from a road end if you get into trouble. Kauritatahi Hut is one of the better huts to visit, great from behind Katikati. Huranui Hut is an easy 2-3 hours, but get directions for hut before you go, unless DOC have cleared the track.
Im thinking Lindemann as a start and return as have family there. I might do a few of the loops first, yes it looks like a good area to get familiar with. Cheers.
