Health & Safety gone mad!

This thread branched from "No new back c. huts because of increased tourism." on . Explore the branch.

They are also not allowing new huts on Tahunanui Beach! "A makeshift driftwood hut on Tahunanui Beach in Nelson was made off limits to the public yesterday as it did not meet council building requirements." You've either got to laugh or cry! Safety standards gone mad! http://www.stuff.co.nz/nelson-mail/79231372/Backlash-over-Nelson-beach-hut-closure-prompts-council-backtrack I know this is not exactly 'tramping' (forgive me Mathew! It is about a hut! lol ) but I think it illustrates the extreme to which current 'health & safety' have gone out onto. Fortunately, in this case, someone in authority bowed to public pressure and backed off.
FMC also posted about this one (facebook). I'd really like to know more about what was deemed unsafe and why it was fenced off before judging the council.
Lets see Built without proper drainage or connection to a suitable sewage system Marine climate but no stainless steel fixings No engineers report on foundations and the lack of suitably preserved timber No insulation No plumbers or electricians certificate Its obviously a leaky building No building permit or resource consent Not allowed for in the district plan
