Reviving an old tent

Hi All, I have retrieved out an old Macpac Microlight (circa 90s) from storage and it needs a bit of work done to it. Firstly I got a couple grazes and tears in the fly that I need to repair. Does anyone recommend a patch repair product (or should I butcher the stuff sack, which is same material) Secondly I want to waterproof the fly. What's a good (not so pricey) option for waterproofing solution that’s not going to harden/thicken up the fly? I had some seam sealer gel but it drys uneven (it goes on too thick)
Hello. Others will probably have suggestions, but you could also try quizzing the people at TwinNeedle. http://www.twinneedle.co.nz/tents/ TwinNeedle split from Macpac when it transitioned to its modern form and ditched everything about local manufacture and repair. If you're lucky you might find people at TwinNeedle who understand lots about older NZ-made Macpac tents, and could make some good suggestions.
Is it nylon or polyester? If nylon uv light may of degraded the fabric untill its not really serviceable any more especially if its had a lot of use. nylon is stronger so you can make lighter tents but polyester will last longer
I believe its ripstop nylon. But I do remember it originally had a waterproofing treatment on both inside and outside the fly. The tent itself is well worn but the fly material is still strong (does not tear) and has still some life left in it. I will have a word with twinneedle as I also have a jacket with a broken zip that needs dealing to.
