sock recommendations

Speaking of socks ... can anyone recommend a good supplier at present? I used the PGG ones for years and they were brilliant: thick (plenty of cushioning), durable, soft, yet cool/breathable. But PGG have gone to Norsewhere now which are none of the above: quickly wear thin, feel like sandpaper, don't last. I've tried god-knows how many other brands since, including the full Farmlands range, but all are either too thin, too rough or sweat like a ... [add well known idiom here]. DOC had some wonderful ones for a while too ... was wort working for them now and then just for the socks. But they too have changed supplier to something thin & abrasive. So. suggestions?
Backroads 'Alpine' from the Farmlands farmers chain store. https://www.farmlands.co.nz/Online-Shop/Apparel/Socks/Mens/BRoad-Alpine-Boot-Sock-3Pk/ I know you said you've tried Farmlands, but not all Farmlands outlets will carry them. Seems to be stores that cater to hill country farmers ie You can get them in Amberley, but not Christchurch, Culverden or Ashburton which are considered flat-land.
I always gone with second quality Bridgedale Trekking socks purchased from sierratradingpost, even with the insanely high postage can usually get a big box landed for around a third of the local price. Just need to wait for one of their big sales. All around a good sock imo, last for ages and not overly bulky.
Farmlands have some great gear, robust and hard wearing. We have these socks and they are really good for tramping... https://www.farmlands.co.nz/Online-Shop/Apparel/Socks/Mens/Brack-Mer-Hiker-Lite-Sock-2Pk/
hunting and fishing have a good range and reasonable prices on some. Im wearing a pair now
I've been buying Thorlo from Rebel Sport lately (when they have sales) - seem to wear well and are pretty good at keeping my feet sweat free (ish). In winter I also use a merino liner - Backcountry.com were clearing them out for US $2 a pair last year, I bought a pile of 'em.
Ive been wearing kathmandu alpine trek socks, or kathmandu outdoor thermal socks. Comfortable, possibly a bit too soft in the upper on them as the bit that my boots dont cover tends to get murdered by bush lawyer and all things that grab and pull. Mine have lasted alright.
http://www.nzsock.co.nz/catalogue/cat-1/Outdoor.htm I bought several pairs of these at a farming field-days stall 2 years ago . Use them everyday and they have held up well. I bought the 'gumboot' sock but I'm just about to order some of the 'tramper' style and see how they go, but based on the others I reckon they will be at least as good.
^ that looks like a decent sock for the price, I'll give them a go next time I need a pair. Thanks!
