Dumb things
Ok I'll start:
Speaking of carrying beer to huts, my mates (not me, I wasn't a big drinker) would carry a box under their arm up to field hut when we were younger. I always thought it was hilarious, especially when we would encounter other hut users...
pretty sure they would take cans for obvious reasons.
I'm sure there are people who have carried a box higher/further?

Nah. Google doesn't know all. Remember when Google didn't exist? We had to experience things for ourselves, or at least make the effort to talk to someone who had, or find the right books to read...... :P
Google only knows what others have looked for. Often the trick is ask the right search and it may point in the correct direction but it can also send you right down the garden path.
The question you asked is several hundred years ago and not something many think about. I ran into snippets of the answer while looking for something else (dont ask)
You are right though but at the same time all things internet have made things so much easier to find but at the same time removed the personal touch.
I would love to have a wee skirt that the rain coats drips onto, worn over my trousers. Too lazy to make one but I think the yanks have something like that which can be bought on-line.
Hey Honora, what a great idea! I've reached the age where I don't give a stuff what other men think so I would even contemplate wearing such a skirt! lol I think the Scots came up with this idea many moons ago!
There's an idea for @sophiam to design? We could be the testers :-)
You can buy waterproof overskirts now. Lady golfers use them. And I have seen hikers wearing them in the Japan Alps.

Back on topic...
On a UCTC tramp up the Avoca valley we took a whole beef roast, specially organized trays (those tin foil type ones for turkeys) 5 bottles of wine and a load of root veges for a hut roast.
It took about 3 hours to cook, we ate at 10 pm but by then we were so newted that we didn't care
It was bloody marvelous as well...!
