Where can you buy a billy with no plastic bits.
Being a long term tramper all my gear is starting to wear out. I've to all the local outdoor shops in Wellington looking for a 6 pint billy that you could use over an open fire. Every billy I've seen has either a plastic handle and/or plastic knob on the lid.
Does anyone know where to buy a billy with old fashioned metal handles and billy lid handles?
i'm somewhat sure I've seen these things at Colin's Trek & Travel - Victoria St Hamilton.
However, I recently bought a lovely, cheap, non-stick, light, right sized pot from the warehouse, removed the handle, threw away the lid and beat out a curve in some round alloy, added a knob of a wood and have the best pot ever!
This is a stab in the dark since I haven't been there to look, but have you tried any of the hunting shops? (eg. The Hunting & Fishing one in Petone.) They often stock alternative ranges to the typical tramping shops.
Have you tried the Army Surplus type shops or perhaps Trade Me? How many litres is 6 pints? I could have have a look up this way as I would like to get hold of one myself, but I think they are an endangered species!
