Maungatautari

I have noted a sign on the Tari Rd entrance to the mountain: NOTICE PRIVATE LAND (Maungatautari 4G section 1V block) Permission is required to enter this land trespassers may be prosecuted. Wiremu Tuura Mahuta Muru Whanau Trust Ph 027 229 9397
This is the second group of signs to go up. The first ones were removed. They appeared a while ago and are no doubt a consequence of the current MEIT governance review relating to land ownership and access.
If there is legal public access, it needs to be enforced. Otherwise this is what happens:-(
Dumb question from an outsider -- what's going on in this case? Is it about who controls the trust that manages the access? I found this press release from November, which seems to imply that this is what's going on, but it's completely new to me. http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/AK1011/S00156/removal-of-two-maungatautari-trustees.htm
Just published by the trust regarding the signs: "Signage at the end of Tari Road Those who have visited the Southern enclosure recently will have noted signs warning people they may be prosecuted for trespassing. The owners of the land area at the end of Tari Road, which encompasses part of the Southern enclosure, are concerned that they could be personally liable should someone injure themselves during a visit. Hence the land owners requested the signs be put up to warn people they are entering private land. MEIT is negotiating an access agreement with the landowners to clarify liability and any on-going signage that may be required will be modified as part of this process"
