Covid

one problem with Covid is that it is mainly killing people with pre existing medical conditions, a lot of them very sick and were going to die in the coming months or year, and its compressing their deaths into an earlier and shorter time frame, if you die while infected of covid then your cause of death is covid. friends uncle had been on oxygen for three years with a heart condition , he died of a heart attack, because he had covid , his death was recorded as covid, he was likely to die soon anyway without covid, it didnt help his condition, but it was one more thing that counted against him surviving. so the stats are hard to get right... so many people are getting covid at the same time with such serious pre existing medical conditions, what is really killing them? the combination ? but your prognosis isnt good if you do have certain major pre existing medical conditons hypoxia can be a big issue with covid, if you're elderly your aerobic capacity is likely to be low anyway, it doesnt take as much reduction in aerobic capacity till you get to a state where you cant absorb enough oxygen to stay alive.... younger people especially the fit can cope with the hypoxia a lot better and it wont push them as close to death the flu kills tens of thousand of people a year but over a longer time frame, because covid spreads so rapidly it hits a lot of people faster. covid could still be deadlier than the flu but the rate of infection makes it that much more alarming... and makes it look that much worse.
COVID is attacking far more than just lungs. It was already known to be affecting livers and kidneys. Now they have confirmed otherwise asymtomatic people (mostly kids) with chill blain like lessions on their feet etc. Also blood clots are becoming a big issue and this one is raising a question on how many healthy people who had unexpected strokes or heart attacks were in fact covid infections. They havnt figured out the processes involved in this infection so there could well be some surprises. With any luck these will point to treatments. Is the pneumonia a symptom or is it a result of clots? If it turns out to be the second then blood thinners could well be a cure. However if its the first they might just hasten the end Are hyper fit people dieing because of this? I havnt heard of any prominent sports people dieing but I could of missed this. It could point to a therapy for mild patients. Are people on any particular medicines more or less prone? Im sure the professionals are asking all these questions and more. In the meantime Im away to get some lemon flavored Trump special sauce
It's mainly killing older people. The more over 40 y.o., the greater the likelihood. Older people have also accumulated co-morbities. A person can have more than 1 co-morbidity so the list adds up to greater than 100% Hypertension appears to be #1. Heart history, Type 2 Diabetes & obesity seem prominent, but you really need to compare those things to the general population of the specific countries to see if they are over-represented in fatality cases.
Be good to see actual statistics, rather than anecdotes from specific cases. It is concerning, but considering how few fatalities overall (5% under 60), this just looks like more media Sensationalism. Waiting for Trump special lemon scent colonic irrigation disinfectant (more effective than oral)
What stats you want to see ?. Dr John Campbell (UK) does a daily statistical analysis & commentary of the Global situation on Youtube. About 30 minutes worth. NZ & Aus usually get a chunk of time as he goes thru significant countries or regions. Easy to watch.
This is likely to bubble-on for a while yet. ""Asked if NZ was on the brink of elimination, Bloomfield said "it gives us confidence that we have achieved our goal of elimination". But he said testing will continue to identify new cases. He said the Ministry will be "quite systematic" when it comes to any new testing. "Our goal is elimination. That doesn't mean eradication," he said."" https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12327755
How many people have blood clots/organ issues ... how many of them have died. Actually updated modelling of how many actual cases (as opposed as confirmed) by country would also be good.
As of 25 April, 'Total Covid-19 tests per 1,000 people' shows Italy tops with nearly 30, Aus just over 25, NZ with about 24. At 9:48 on this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOhL_KnwrR8 At 30 tests per 1,000 there's a lot not tested who might have slipped the net & be showing antibodies. Anybody seen a mention of 'other deaths' over last couple of months, apart from road toll ?. 2017 there were 92 deaths per day, every day, on average. https://www.health.govt.nz/publication/mortality-2017-data-tables
Interesting run-down on 16 most significant individual clusters - https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12326990 Clusters under 11 people now not publicly reported by Ministry of Health.
Vit D = Good thing. UV = Good thing. Virus appears to prefer a cool weather corridor of Lattitudes in Global spread. But doesn't like low temps approaching 0degC ""Researcher Dr Richard Hobday, author of The Healing Sun: Sunlight and Health in the 21st Century, said that during the First World War, military surgeons routinely used sunlight to heal infected wounds. "Public health advice in the 1918 pandemic was sleep with your bedroom windows open and get out in the fresh air and sunshine."Hospital patients who were nursed outdoors in tents and put in the sun seem to have recovered far better than those indoors.""" https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=12332485
