Horace Walker Hut

Westland / Tai Poutini National Park, Te Wāhipounamu - South West New Zealand World Heritage Area

Small (4 bunk, pioneer stove, limiter firewood, stream water @ 200m), isolated hut on the Douglas River west of Mount Sefton and below the Douglass Neve.

Poled track leads to Cashell Flat in the Karangarua via the tops north of the hut. Partially marked track leads to Douglass Saddle and thence the Landsborough - this involves crossing snout of the Douglass Glacier. Alternative route to Landsborough via Mt Howitt or Red Stag Pass & the Karangarua Saddle - though descent from Karangarua Saddle to Landsborough is for experienced alpine parties only (a 1km sidle down broad scree ledge to west of saddle with bluffs below all the way).
