Pig Damage to native bush
Hello, new to this site, very impressed with the quality of content avaliable. Im interested to know if anyone has seen an increasing amount of pig rooting off some of the tracks. If you know of area that has been dug over by pigs please contact me via pm or 0273522486, i have a very efficient way of controlling these animals and help the natives regenerate.
The Ureweras might be a bit outside your area of interest (I see you are in Lincoln) and it is probably no news that there are pigs there. But if you will look at http://www.tramper.co.nz/?5027 you will see in my route description that there was an area there where the pad was completely obscured by pig activity. Mind you, the track isn't used very often either.
'Hmm. If I call myself tramper4life instead of a hunter4life maybe I can get all those trampers out there to look for good hunting spots for me.' Cunning!
Eastern Richmond Ranges is the nearest I can offer - never seen the likes of it. Looks like the whole park has been disk'd. But still a long way from the West Coast.
The area around Totara Flats in the Tararuas always has pig rooting to various degrees but probably the worst i have seen lately is in the area between Renata And Waiotauru huts,once again in the Tararuas.Theres a hell of a lot of deer sign there too.
Flats on the opposite bank to Totora (upstream from Sayer Hut) were completely ripped up this weekend. Fresh-as, overturned grass still green underneath.
