The proposed hydro scheme takes a portion of the water flowing through Morgan Gorge, downstream of Kiwi flat.
Its contruction is unlikely to improve the legal river-dependent access from the end of Waitaha Rd to Macgregor Creek (and the beginning of conservation land) as the hydro road will cross private land which is likely to remain closed.
Last time I scoped the legal route it was necessary to cross the Waitaha twice, which is only possible when the river is low. It would be much easier to walk over dairy farm land.
@waynowski: thanks for publicising this. Hope the submissions deliver the coup de grace to this silly idea. It doesn't stack up economically.
