Tongariro National Park in October
Hey all! I'm wanting to do the Tongariro Northern Circuit and Mt. Tongariro in early October. I have some (minimal) mountaineering experience so I was wondering if it would be doable around that time. I'm just wondering what the conditions usually are in October and if I would feel comfortable enough to attempt it. Is there still stable snow pack or will it have started melting or is it gone by that point? I'm having some trouble finding definitive information so I thought I'd turn it over to you lovely people!
Thanks for your help!
Sara
its quite variable for snow then, depends on when it snowed last and how much snow fell... you should know how to use ice axe and crampons and take them if there is snow..
Tongariro summit by the tourist route is an easy walk up - no mountaineering experience required, but as stated above you should have sharps and know how to use them.
