Hollyford in early January, and other suggestions

Hi, I'm Colombian, and I'm traveling to NZ in December and I'm planning to stay until the 24th of January. I've never tramp in NZ before, I've booked two great walks but I would like to tramp some different tracks. One of those i've been thinking is Hollyford track. I don't know how many days Hollyford track is, because I've read a 4 day, 5 day and an 8 day track. So if you could suggest me what you think would be the best way to do the holly track, I would really appreciate it. I also don't know if in that track you need to book the huts or camping sites, or you just need to give the tickets once you get there. Apart from that, if you have any other suggestion of a "must do" track, or any other advice I would really appreciate the info.
There are 6 huts on the Hollyford with most of them about half days walk apart, there's certainly no need to stay at all of them unless you want to. McKerrow Island hut is out on an island in the Hollyford river so it can be cut off by flooding. You don't book the huts, you leave the tickets when you're there. The track is 3-6 days walk ONEWAY. You either have to turn around and walk back once you reach Martins Bay, or pay for a jet boat or a flight. Some people fly from Milford Sound to the guided walkers lodge near Martins Bay then walk out. Trips and Tramps are just one company that offer transport (including flights) packages: http://tripsandtramps.com/product-detail/hollyford-track-transport Read the DOC brochure: http://www.doc.govt.nz/Documents/parks-and-recreation/tracks-and-walks/southland/hollyford-track-brochure.pdf
Thanks for the information. Really useful.
