Mangorei Maude circuit

A few people mentioned an old track in the Egmont Pouakai area that links Mangorei Track through to Maude track. Seemed like a snowy weekend kind of trip.
I wouldnt really go as far as calling it a track, while at least you arent bush crashing, its marked with cruise tape and that's about it.

Its a pretty indirect sort of route. Does anyone know the history of it?
