Rotorua trampers?

1–10 of 11

Hi! I'm a 24 year-old female who has recently moved to Rotorua and am keen to get to know outdoorsy people around my age in the area to go tramping with. I am keen for anything from daywalks to long trips, as well as other things like climbing, kayaking and just hanging out! :)
You could come along to the Rotorua Tramping & Skiing Club. Our next meeting is next Monday 7:30pm at the Women's Club which is next door to the Princes Gate Hotel. Unfortunately we are all a bit older than you, which, sadly, seems to be typical of Tramping Clubs these days. However we like to think that we are young at heart and I am sure you would fit in on one of our trips if you wished to. Alternatively, my daughter who is about your age, has just started rock climbing with a group of young people loosely associated with "The Wall" the climbing gym in Hinemoa St. That might be a place you could start. If you come to the Tramping Club meeting, ask for Peter and I could put you in touch.
Hi Peter, thanks for that - yeah I went along to the last meeting and was planning to come to the next one too. It would be good to get in touch with the climbers, I'll come and find you at the meeting. :)
Great, will see you there.
Hi :) i'm pretty close by ~ Tauranga ~ and I'd be really keen to meet up anywhere in the Upper N.I. for an all-day or 2-day tramp, as i only have the weekends free. Have you got any plans for weekend of 8th May? I'd love to do the Ngamarama/Te Tuhi Track in the Kaimais over Sat/Sun if anybody's keen! http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/tracks-and-walks/bay-of-plenty/tauranga-area/ngamarama-te-tuhi-track/
Hi guys, I am in Tauranga and know a few more younger people keen to go tramping in the area. Cheers Matze
Hey all I am coming up to tauranga at the beginning of june and will maybe look at doing a 1-3 tramp in the kaimais if anyone else is keen to join or has a good idea for a hut to visit etc Cheers jono
I will most likely be going up waitawheta tramway and hopping up to dalys clearing hut (any one no how long this side trip takes?) then going back down to the tramway and carrying on to waitawheta hut for the night and most likely walking back out the same track. Is the carpark at franklin rd end safe-ish for leaving a car parked there? And also if anyone wants to come along I will be doing this during the 1st week of June and your most welcome to join me. ps. If anyone knows of a better 1-2 night tramp up there, im all ears. Never been before and dont know the area. Cheers Jono.
The Franklin Rd carpark is safeish. It is a reasonably busy place with houses etc around so it is not your usual remote road end. There are better trips but if you haven't been there before then it is worth doing. Just be prepared for the Waitawheta hut to be full, it is a popular place and it has been full and crowded both times I have been there. Have a tent or take a fly to build a shelter on the verandah like we did. We had the best sleep of anyone there. See http://www.tramper.co.nz/?3938
Good photo and very nice bunkroom lol. I hope that if I go up on a week night that it wont be as busy but I will take my solo tent just in case. Thanks for the info
