Winter backcountry
Hi, i am going to be in Wanaka this winter, i know that you can do a lot of backcountry around here. I am looking for people to go with because i am not that confident!! Or maybe in Wanaka there is like a backcountry school (but not 1000NZ$ for 2 days...)!!!

Hi Juju,
Theres plenty of tracks around Wanaka and furthur North along the Haast road. Havn't tramped there in winter before so Im not sure what they are like then, but many of the valleys have low level tracks which shouldnt be effected by snow (it'll just be very cold!).
Ask around at the backpackers in Wanaka if anyones after tramping partners. In my experience theres usually someone heading off into the hills somewhere.

If you're also into backcountry skiing, I'd be quite keen to join you. I'm not that experienced though, so we'll need to find a Master :-)
