Tramping Research Project
Hey everyone!
Im a fourth year Industrial design student and I am looking into designing around tramping safety gear.
Im wondering what problems,issues and possible improvements you have with your current gear? This can include anything!
First Aid,Shelter,backpacks,cooking utilities. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Im a beginner tramper myself and Im heading on a tramp in a few weeks !
Would be great to have some feedback

@Russell, well put mate!
I think all currant and future gear rides on the shoulder of the stuff before it and is constantly evolving for the better (usually) and its a fairly diverse industry now, not just hardware and software.
Headlamps are making massive leaps with LED tech and batteries/USB etc electronics are making big in roads into the industry now with PLBs, GPS and the like becoming normal items for many.
Welcome to the madhouse! Good luck with your research anyway, there are some very talented and clued up people on here however, like everywhere, there are also some absolute sock puppets.
@pipeking Thanks, I think I've herd that before. Do you wash it first (no detergent), or do you just chuck it straight in the drier?
the DWR thing? You wash it yea bro, sorry forgot that bit :)
It depends how hard you are on your gear as to how long the DWR stays on, the more bush bashing etc and its toast in no time. Most alpine stuff gets a smashing from snow/ice contact my over trou has permanent faded patches on the knees and arse :)
Thanks man, I'll give it a go. Think I've used the hydrophobia more as a wind jacket then in the actual rain!
re graingers it was really grangers

Oh! I was looking for actual rainwear, as opposed to the crap you put on it. :D
wash it ideally in detergent designed for raingear, its minus the chemicals that commercial detergents have that are left behind and clog up the membrane, aromatics are a problem..

Yea good point Wayno, but I believe its only an issue with non-gore membranes as they are Olio-phobic..
