Mt Ngatamahinerua
Hi,
has anyone climbed to the trig of Mt Ngatamahinerua in the kaimais recently? I know there used to be a marked track from the saddle on the old north south track to the summit but this looks completely overgrown. I am thinking about climbing up one of the firmer slips on the tauranga side and bush bashing across.
Yes, I was up there a few years ago. I did exactly what you intend and just bashed up one of the creeks. It wasn't too bad. But it is hardly worth doing. The trig is immersed in thick bush and the summit area quite flat. There is no view at all.
Steve, you might not have seen this route guide to Kauritatahi Hut which sidles around Ngatamahinerus http://www.tramper.co.nz/?3106
Thanks for that, we've been exploring the whole Thompson's Ngatamahinerua area for a couple of weeks, hopefully get to the hut some stage this week
Cheers
