There will most likely be people on the boat across Hauroko with you you can likely join up with. Check with tour operators on booking numbers. Don't know if the drought has had much effect on Fiordland but I did it during the drought of 2012 and the lower than usual rainfall made it much easier than expected. In average rainfall it would come down to getting your rest days right (ie, not attempting any of the Seaforth river sections while they are flooded thus avoiding wading/swimming through surface water while looking for irregular track markers.) Being fit enough to do those sections in double marches when the levels are down is a big help. If you were to get higher than average rainfall all I can say is I hope you have lots of food and an eprb.
