the Cropp river - now that would be a real test for cameras. The hut didn't last ....

All of the central Westland country about the Cropp's distance from the main divide can get very heavy rain. Thankfully on my Cropp trips I've missed torrential rain though back in 75 on arrival at Cropp Hut found it washed off its piles. (It got fixed that time by the NZFS. This happened again in 1995 in the DOC era but they didn't fix the hut and it was demolished in 1996)
Back in 75 I had a cheap and nasty Hanimex pocket instamatic camera. It would not be used if it was raining. The only images I've got of Cropp Hut were taken with the Hanimex.
