Okarito!
Hi guys, I'm new here and thought I'd share one of my recent trips with you all.
From November 28-Dec 4 myself and 18 other high school students from around the South Island went on a trip to Okarito sponsored by Untouched World and BNZ STK. It was really fun!
Okarito's a really great place, and it sort of feels like this is how New Zealand was 'back in the day'. The people are nice, and the scenery's awesome.
For 6 days we did a few tramps, learnt about the Rowi (a type of Kiwi) (only 350 left; all in the Okarito Forest), the Kea and the work the department (DOC) does. I met some really great people including the local residents, DOC staff, and the other people on the trip. We had to do a presentation at the end of the 6 days about what we'd do when we go back to our communities.
Anyway I could go on forever about how nice the place is, but you should check it out yourself (I sound like I'm a tourism commercial, I know).
If you don't know where Okarito is, this link will give you a good idea.
