Stanfield's Whare

I have been in touch with Terry Slee at DOC Turangi about what they will be doing about the demise of Stanfield's Whare. Here is his reply: "Hi Peter Yes we want to remove any of the un-natural building materials rather than have them littering the river. We will be in their asap to do recording for historic purposes and retrieval of the materials. We have been talking to Harvey Stanfield about this. regards Terry Terry Slee Programme Manager Visitor/Historic Assets / Pou Whakahaere Taonga-manuhiri Te Ao tawhito Turangi-Taupo Area More pictures and discussion at http://www.fishnhunt.co.nz/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1258067619
I was hoping someone could retrieve the hut book, would be a shame for it to disappear down the river, especially when its been so well looked after.Im sure Harvey would be pleased to have it back. His last trip in there was a few years ago now. From memory his last trip in there was when he was about 75, and still very proud of his time of around 5 hours. There used to be a lot of "Flintstone" type furniture about. The place certainly had a lot of character!
I am sure the hut book will be the first thing to get retrieved.
