Visiting NZ from mid-Nov to mid-Feb

I'll be in Auckland by Tuesday, November 18. I'll probably be tramping sporadically for about eleven weeks. I am a neophyte when it comes to camping and I don't have many plans. Therefore, I'm hoping someone can join me for a subset of that time to offer ideas about places to go and to help keep me from doing stupid things that might get me killed.
