Kaimai Old North South camping

We are planing a trip over 3 days/2 nights from franklin road along the dean track then down the mangakino track to the mangakino shelter for the night. Then going from there down the north east and turning off onto the old north south going towards trig Pahiko 5721 (788m) and up to cashmore clearing junction. From there heading on down to wairoa shelter and linderman road end. At the moment we dont think we will get to the wairoa shelter for the second night. Just wondering if anybody knows any good (or bearable) camping along the old north south track that we would be following? We know cashmores is pretty boggy etc, would be fly camping so would need some bush cover/trees and preferably water. Any help would be greatly appreciated Sam
Cashmores is a bit boggy but there are places to camp that are relatively dry. Walk about 10 to 15 minutes from the junction towards the old north south track up what is the old cashmores clearing track and once you move off the track to your right there are dry places to pitch for the night. you will find old fire rings where others havnt been so careful before you. Water is here in places if you drop off the ridge a bit but it may be easier to carry from the last stream you cross.
Many many years ago I camped around the area where bigpaul talks about. It would have been somwhere around NZMG E2758395 N6401246 or where the track on the map is depicted on the map passing near the stream. There used to be an old hut there, since removed. I rememeber there being hardly any places to camp and we were lucky to find that. Removed huts tend to make good places to camp so if you find that site it would be a good bet.
Thanks for the replies guys, yip thats the only vauge area that we are aware of, hopefuly someone else will know of one somewhere. Has anyone been through that area lately? all we need to camp is some bush cover to be able to put up a fly and flat non boggy ground(water/stream etc would be a big plus though) And what is the track condition like? I know ive been past the junc on the way to wahine recently and some one had crossed out the hours and put up 9 hrs (or something like that) through to te aroha.
