Hollyford Track
To all you weather wise people out there i will be walking the Hollyford in late april or May i know it will be cold but what is the rain like
Lindsay
Jan/Feb would be a better time, but in March April this year we got enough good weather to climb Mt Ngaruhoe and do a 9 day trip in the Ruahines mostly tops travel. Some nasty side creeks on the track that would not be good to cross after a day of rain but then again there is the jetboat haha.
You are well and truly on the "shoulders" of the season for Holyford, so be prepared for anything.
The rain can be torrential, but under the canopy it never seems that bad :)
However I did spend 2 extra days on that track some years ago waiting for the streams to subside enough to allow safe passage.
