Duke of Edinburgh Tramp in the Waitakere
I'm currently organising a tramp for around 20 schoolboys as part of their Duke of Ed award. Am currently looking at a loop from Huia to Whatipu, camping at the Odlin Campsite, along the Twin Peaks, Huia Ridge, Odlin Timber, Zion Hill and back along the coastal tracks. I have a number of questions regarding these tracks. First, are there any significant river crossings? Secondly, are the tracks well marked? Thirdly, are the worthwhile or should I look somewhere else? The boys are quite new to the outdoors (but will be supervised) but are keen to get going! I plan to check the tracks out over the next few weeks but would appreciate any comments or advice. Thanks
Shane
Probably too late now - the tracks are very well defined and marked. There are no major river crossings. The only thing is the coastal tracks can be very soft and boggy.
