Wanted: easy walks near Palmy North.
OK: probably getting a wee bit ahead of myself as the furthest I've managed to walk since breaking my leg is 2km (or more accurately the furthest I've been able to walk since the doctors got their hands on me after breaking my leg!).
However, I've had just about enough of sitting here reading about everyone else's tramps and need at least to start dreaming of some for myself in the near future.
Criteria: easy, flat (downhill is HARD), minimum of tree roots and scrambling. Weekend walks with a hut at the end. Prefer 1.5hrs of Palmy North, so southern Ruahines / northern Tararuas. But happy to hear of any real gems a bit farther afield.

Hey rileyz - just back at work and trying to make up for X months of lost income. No free time for tramping so fairly quiet as far as this site is concerned. Possumed blocks in the Catlins and now the Maniototo, then off to Otamatata next. All big country up there: 1000m from the ridgeline down to the river in Clear Stream and Chimney Creek and looking forward to it. Middlemarch is a long way from the ranges and needs time off to make a tramping trip to the Alps worthwhile, whilst Otamatata is just on the doorstep ... hopefully get out for some overnight trips when I'm up there. Health good though: possuming way tougher on the body than most tramping, so should be a breeze when I get back to it (here's hoping)!
