What's on your gear list?

Seeing as we're trying to fill up the forums with a lovely goo of usefull information... you can all share your gear lists! So what do you take on your standard tramp? Try and be as thourough as you can ie. "single man one pole 3 season tent" rather than "tent" include your usual food stock as well if you want.

I'd love to know what your packs weigh with those lists! In summer I can do a 6 day trip carrying 10kg total including the pack! I wouldn't want to do a trip with a party that carries 2-3 billies for a group of 4. Just to give you an idea of my experience with gear...I get out every weekend that the wx allows and aim to do 100 days/year in the hills. This year it's running at 87 days, alas - we didn't go out for 3 weekends in a row this month with the NW forecasts. My record is 123 days in 2002 since I've been keeping records but I did manage 94 days in 1996 when I traversed the S.I. from Foveaux Strait to Mt Cook plus lots of other stuff that year. Heading into the hills today with gear to camp on the tops overnight, including instep crampons, UHF 2 way radio and a thermorest and my pack weighs 7kg. I came back yesterday from a 3 day trip and shared the hut with a party of 3. They had fresh vegies, and a Primus MSR type white spirits monster. These stoves are designed to melt snow! We carry an MSR Pocket Rocket which weighs 85g (and last year won the CTC cooker race). This party had walked 4 hours up the valley to the hut and mentioned they were a bit tired. No wonder with the gear. It seemed like they were stuck in a time warp and hadn't learnt anything about recent lighter gear. They were keen experienced types. You don't need a potscrub but a billy gripper is mandatory to save on burns. I didn't have one on my Fiordland traverse and it is the only item we didn't have that I wished we'd taken. When Frank broke his leg the winter before last, we had enough gear to improvise splints/padding etc.
Honora, I am in awe, I challenge you to write you list, weigh items individually and lest us know the art and zen of carry nothing. Does 7kg include food and water?
Hmm - Just got back from a 3 night tramp, tried everything(apart from jettisoning the Tequila) and could'nt get below 18kg. That was with dehydrated food, 1 set dry clothes, cooking equip (maybe I shouldnt carry 2 of everything). Yeah so a list would be good. Oh and a 3.5kg 2 man tent. Maybe the art of stealing lunches in my school days couls come in handy;-)
That's got to be the tent... Especially if you carried it alone.
I dont usually check but I'm away for 5 days next week a mixture of tops and bush travel every thing packed including food and two litres of water 15.2kg. The extra wieght is the Kaweka meals Honora i just cant bring myself to eat dehi any more. A few years ago I bought a Jet-T cooker wieghs 76gms and puts out 9000btu's (i think that means it gets hot quick) coupled with my Snowpeak Titanium cookset (why cant we get this stuff in NZ)i dont think its possible to get the cooking gear any lighter. I was packing my one planet bag and re-wieghed it I was surprised to see it actually wieghs 3kg (I thought it was a kilo so thats next on my list of reductions though parting with its going to be tuff).
I accept the challenge but I'll have to do it tomorrow as it's nearly midnight. My partner has weighed all his gear and has it entered in a database so for every trip he selects his items and it adds up the weight automatically when he clicks on the "print report" button. Last trip he carried 12kg all up for a 2 day trip, including food and the trip before, he carried 18kg for a 4 day trip including crampons and ice axe in case of snow. My weight total doesn't include water. This varies tremendously from zero to 5kg when I climbed Mt Adams where there is supposed to be no water but my mate, Andrew, found a little tarn on the way back from the summit. In case you're suspecting Frank is the packhorse, he carries the 1.6kg tent but I carry the evening meals and the stove and fuel.
I’m going for an easy overnight, thought I’d weigh and post. Must go to bed now! I'm all open to constructive feedback... I do most of my walking alone and don't often rifle through other packs at a hut... So, I don't get to see other get ups. Tell me if I'm having a moose here.
I'm still up! What's a moose?
Making a very poor attempt at something. "Cor, Johnny's having a moose trying to pitch that tent!". Or, aptly. "Gee Clive! You're having a moose! What were you thinking carrying all that??"
