Tongariro Crossing

Hi there! My partner and I would like to walk the Tongariro Alpine Crossing this month. We'll wait until we find a fine sunny day so we don't have to go back home seeing nothing. We'd like to car share the ride from one parking site to the other. The plan would be: to meet at one end, get everyone in one car and drive to the other end, walk the track and drive everyone again to the first carpark. Then all of us we'll save the bus transfer fee! We're average fit, so feel free to walk faster if you're an experienced hiker as long as you wait for us in the carpark! Cheers!
It will still be crampon weather up there and short daylight hours.
Thanks, Geeves. Any idea about when the weather will be good enought to avoid using crampons? The DOC webpage still says "winter conditions". Thanks!
doc page is best guide. Certainly not before labour weekend and that would still be pushing your luck. A few years ago there was snow on the ground to the bush edge between xmas and new year
Thanks so much, geeves! I think I'll better wait until the end of summer. I certainly don't want to push my luck.
