adding links to items

Matthew, a small glitch with IE8 on an XP-sp3 platform : when editing an item (a photograph, in this case) and adding a link to other items, a daughter window opens with the search page (as expected) – but the parent window also displayed the search page. Then, having searched and selected an item to link (in the daughter window), the daughter window goes blank (with the coloured backdrop). At this point you’re stuck – if I close the daughter window, I’m looking at the search page in the parent window - and doing another search results in the same outcome (no item added and a blank/coloured window). It all works as intended when I use Firefox. (yes, I know, I should use Firefox :) BTW, one odd thing just now (firefox) : logged into the site and got a page with header etc, but no links, displaing "New message" at the top ?? (logged out and back in but the message was not repeated).
