Where to go?

Hi, we are looking for a nice trek during the first week of November. The week before we want to visit the Abel Tasman park. My wife is pregnant, but still pretty fit. So it should not be too steep. Up to 700m in one day should be O.K. Where can we get a quite good impression of NZs beauty? Who can help us? Martin
If you are looking for somewhere in the north of the South Island then you are pretty spoilt for choice. The obvious places to go would be Nelson Lakes National Park or Kahurangi National Park. If you are looking for something less visited then there is the Richmond Ranges behind Nelson. Drier country but good tramping.
The Tablelands in Kahurangi are very nice and not too bumpy seeing as you can drive up to them - you could walk in to Salisbury or Balloon hut. Or a saunter up the Pelorus Valley from a Pelorous bridge access road is really pretty too. If you like beaches I recommend the base of the Farewell Spit and Wharariki beach. There are a few nice day walks there and stunning scenery :)
Try the Cobb Valley, up to Round lake, nice area and lots of huts/flatness....
