Ideas?

I guess the most requested addition to this site has been a discussion forum. Well here it is finally. If there's anything else you would like to see, post it here. Here are some ideas: * Uploading and sharing GPS data * Large slideshows of members' photos * Sharing of folders of photographs and other material with friends or members * Integrated relevant business advertising What else would you like to see?

Why not do both... When the title of a thread is clicked on, it should take you to the start of the thread... But maybe have a little icon beside the title which would jump to the last page of the thread if clicked on?
I was looking at Andrew's picture of Rubicon Bivy and think that we almost need another category, like huts, for bivys and campsites. What do you think? On that vein, GPX files are not really very visible. My thinking is that GPX files should only really be incorporated into tracks. All the information, other than the file itself, is the same.
Just developing the idea of a category for huts and rock bivys, maybe the category should be "Points of Interest" and sub categories could be rock bivys, campsites, viewpoints, summits, waterfalls etc.
Just last week I made a change so that all the different types of object (e.g. hut, track...) can have fundamentally different screen layouts. The goal of this change was to address issues like this. So I have just put the infrastructure in place, but nothing has been done with it yet. I will be rolling these out one by one, starting with the easier ones, then working up to tracks.
Hi Guys. I'm new to this site. Did I stuff up putting Rubicon Biv under the Hut category??? I'm still finding my way around! Cheers Andrew
Hi, welcome. No -- we don't have a separate place for bivs. Really they're just baby huts, right? If you have any ideas while you look around this is the place to mention them.
Like the new representation of merged items. Makes it very clear and tracable.
Just need to be a little careful here. In the Ureweras a bivy is a small hut, some of them aren't that small. Down in Otago it could be an overhanging rock. In the Darrens it might be a small ledge with your feet dangling over nothing and no shelter at all. In my opinion a hut is a man made construction. The problem is that with a lot of overseas tourists using this site and not familiar with our culture, it could cause confusion. It is bad enough with some Europeans arriving at our huts expecting warm blankets to be provided and asking to see the menu. Imagine if they arrived at an overhanging rock! I remember taking one of my North island tramping mates down for a trip in Otago and showing him, with pride, one of the wonderful rock bivys down there. His reaction was "It's a bit grotty though". I was extremely hurt.
Clearly it's important to track the position of shelters such as overhanging rocks. Should there be a separate category for things like this, such as informal shelter or rock shelter? What about camping areas? Should they be tracked? Should "huts" be renamed to "places to stay" so they could include huts, rock shelters, and camping areas?
Good! I tried a couple options and that seemed clearest. Thanks for your help.
