Best place to track
Hey there everyone,
My brother and I are organizing a 2 week long spontaneous trip to New Zealand . We both love hiking and we were hoping to get some ideas from you guys here about the best tracks to do and any general tips to keep in mind while planning. We booked accommodation using http://www.trivago.co.nz and we will begin our trip from Auckland, stay there maybe a day or two and probably go to Waiheke after that.
I'm looking forward to great recommendations from all of you
Telling us 3 things about you might be useful first:
What time of the year are you and your brother coming?
What previous experience do you have?
Do you plan on doing other things in your 2 week visit (which is a very short time span by the way) or just hike?
take your pick

Hi Gerol,
If you take the time to fill in your profile and share a bit more information then you might find people here a bit more forthcoming. Two weeks is not very long, so you probably want to do a small number of things or you will simply spend the whole time travelling.
i won't provide more information to blank slate questions...
what usually ensues is a question and answer sessions as we provide all the information for tourists who havent bothered to come to the table with much if any back ground research in what they are looking for. go and look through the doc website and find some ideas. THEN when you have some ideas ask some SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
things to keep in mind when planning...
How do you plan to travel around? Popular tracks are well serviced by public transport over summer, but if you are coming in the off season, or if you want to go somewhere quieter, it may be more difficult to find public transport. (although some tracks eg heaphy and abel tasman are still well serviced over winter). if you are hiring a car, you might want to stick to loop tracks or return trips to keep things simpler.
Keep some flexibility in your plans to allow for possible delays due to weather, river levels etc. People have come to grief from trying to cross rivers that were up because they "needed" to get out that day to make their flight.
Let us know what experience you have, when you are coming, and what sort of tramps you are after and we'll offer some suggestions
Thanks waynowski and Chris1 I'll keep all that in mind :)
