Tramping - Labour day weekend in great barrier isl

Hi everyone, new here on the website and would like to start tramping here in NZ. Just wondering if anyone have an experience going tramping at great barrier island. can anyone give me advice about tramping, im a beginner by the way... but in good shape for walking (i think) :)
Hello ktselner, Great Barrier Island has some really special walking tracks through regenerating native forest, to natural hot springs and there's walks to suit all levels of fitness. It is easy and safe to hitchhike around the island, especially on holiday weekends and there is also a daily bus to get you to the start of the tracks. I recommend planning a night in the hut at Mt Heale which has stunning views. From Windy Canyon at the top of the Okiwi Hill it's just 2 hours to the highest point of the island, Mt Hirakimata and the hut is not far from there. Check out www.thebarrier.co.nz/walkingtracks.htm and feel free to use the contact form on the website to ask more questions. I'm happy to help.
