A Conservation Department (DOC) decision to close some tracks in the Tararuas could put lives at risk, according to some trampers.

Couldn't see in the article which tracks they were considering closing and not that surprised re booking system for Powel & Jumbo..not a bad idea at face value to me.
cant remember all the tracks but block 16 and one other track from marchant to turenekau were among them.
If we carry on using these tracks though they will always be there. If we dont they disappear and with the aid of a compass we can walk where we like. That will be fun for search and rescue
Just because there isnt a track doesnt mean we cant go there

they were both pretty basic tacks.
