Lewis Pass questions

I am planning a trip in the Lewis Pass area and have a couple of questions. Has anyone travelled the section of tops between The Grand Duchess and Boscawen Saddle (looks OK on the map) or from Mt Boscawen down into the Doubtless River (doesn’t look quite so friendly, but apparently has been done)? I also would be interested to know if it is advisable to make use of the car minding service at Boyle River in preference to leaving a car in one of the DOC car parks for approx a week.
