Moonlight and Roses hut ( near Hawea)

We went to this hut last week via the Timaru creek and through the bush.It was a mission to get to, really hard bush bashing through rugged terrain. Wouldnt recommeend this way. If you want to go to this hut then follow the Timaru creek to Junction hut (private hut in dire condition)From the junction hut, go straight up the hill and onto the ridge avoiding all the beech forest. There is no water on the hilltops so fill up from the river. Its an easy walk along the ridge, over another ridge and down a little to the hut. Take a topo map and GPS as there are no markers. The hut is small but cute and comfortable with a great fire and lots of wood. The walk from the carpark takes about a day.Its nice and you wont see a soul, just plenty of trout. The Timaru creek high river walk takes an extra hour as it goes up and down.
Sounds great...although the compass is so much easier.Don't need batteries ..don't need satellites...saves much time.. and was around long before GPS.
