Hiking west of Christchurch in Winter?
Hello, I'm waiting out the winter in Christchurch but itching for some hiking. I've been hiking around mainly South Island this summer, covering about 700km in total. http://www.thomashuang.net/newzealand/newzealand.htm
I don't have any winter experience and feel uncomfortable going on my own, I don't have a car either. I would be interested in going hiking around Christchurch, or perhaps farther, with people who are experienced in winter conditions, if it isn't too technical.
I went to the Christchurch tramping club meeting today and saw a few trips I was interested in that did not require snow skills. They did offer snow course but it was full. I was informed that mountain safety had courses too. Might be interested in them but cost might be prohibitive.
Hi Thomas. Sometimes the CTC run another snow skills course later if there's been a lot of interest in the first one.
