Kaimanwa Trip Suggestions

Hi - did a nice trip last October/November - URCHIN carpark, to Urchin, along recently re-cut track to Umukarikari, down to Waipakihi, Up on to Middle Range, along to Thunderbolt, Down to Urchin campsites on Waipakihi River - Back up over Urchin to carpark (2/3 days). Another cool loop which I have not done yet (but on the list) would be to get dropped off on Desert Road and follow the poled access route to the Otamateanui Stream - follow this down to the confluence with the Rangitikei River - which you could then go up and then over Thunderbolt to Urchin. (rivers may not be much fun in June though) - I think also too a good one would be a circuit that takes in Te Iringa, Oamaru, Boyd, Cascade (via Maungaorangi/Waiatupuritia Saddle, Cascade, Kaipo back to Te Iringa. There are some other great through tramps like Cascade, Ngapuketurua, Junction Tops, Waipakihi, Umukarikari - but you would need to check with DOC Turangi on this as it crosses private land and not sure if this access has been opened yet - they are negotiating with East Taupo Lands - be good to hear what you decide on - I'm sure others on here will have some other great suggestions!
