Milford Track in May

My friends and I all live in Te Anau and want to do the Milford track on May 1st. Does anyone have any ideas about transport to and from the track?
Checkout Tracknet (http://www.tracknet.co.nz). Their winter timetable kicks in 1st May and is less regular then their summer timetable. If you look on the DoC website about booking the hut tickets for the Milford you should also be able to buy the transport at the same time.
Thanks. I believe that the Milford season ends at the end of april so booking won't be needed and I don't think the official boats run anymore . . .
I have been on the Milford a couple of times in Winter. You need to be careful of avelanches. We had a big dump in there in May one year. It made getting out a bit of a mission. Dore Pass is a possibility to get to the Glade House end but it is a high pass and best for experienced trampers. You need a boat at the Milford end. We got droped off at Sandfly by a friendly fisherman once, it cost us a bottle of rum.
Ive been on the Milford track in April, and in May. The early April trip had plenty of snow, with the hut warden on the verge of cutting steps for access over the pass. Our May trip was in very warm conditions, and no snow close by, so it really depends on conditions at the time. We used Tracknet for transport, as they reschedule soon after the official season ends. There may not be gas available in the huts after the season ends.A bonus is the track may be walked in either direction from May onwards.
