Calibrated maps?

Hi, I'm using ExpertGPS which doesn't properly support the GeoTIFF format and I have to manually calibrate LINZ maps from trig points, which is a pain to get accurate - and I would prefer accurate; plus I don't want to have to do this for all the dozens of 1:50,000 maps I'd like to have access to on my computer to plot routes off LINZ topographic maps (rather than the less accurate Google Maps or OpenStreetMap). Has anyone already converted the LINZ Topo50 set to calibrated .map or similar formats?
I havn't used ExpertGPS myself but I gave up on products that require you to manually calibrate maps a while ago. I use Garmin Mapsource, which now supports NZTM. Mapsource can be downloaded for free and then I use http://www.gtmaps.co.nz which is $150 for all of NZ at 1:50,000 sheet detail. These are vector maps but if you prefer rastor maps then there are products like Maptoaster that might do the job better. There are also some free topos of various quality for Mapsource at http://www.nzopengps.org see the forum for links. What sort of GPS do you use or are you just plotting routes manually on the map?
Thanks, yeah I'm starting to lose patience and interest with ExpertGPS. I have an eTrex H, so just looking for mapping on the computer to plan waypoints and routes. It's been fine working with Google Earth/Maps or OpenStreetMaps but I'd much prefer to be working with the LINZ maps.
PHEW finally, found a solution. Easy-to-use Windows utility that extracts the LINZ GeoTIFF ESRI world file metadata into a separate .tfw file that ExpertGPS understands. Explained more over on the TopoGrafix Forums: http://forums.topografix.com/index.php?showtopic=2856
