around Mt Taranaki

Hey everyone.
I want to do a track around Mt Egmond/ Mt Taranaki. I will probably do the track as DOC surgests, but with the availability of so many other sidetracks I might don it a little different. I am planing for 5 days.
By the looks of the weather I will start just after the xmas days.
I would realy welcomne any advise on nice preferable tracks or places to avoid. Has anyone done parts of it lately??
