Kaimai hut conditions

Which way are you going in from? My description of the route to Kauritatahi is here http://www.tramper.co.nz/?3106 The track was recut about a year ago and the hut now sports a flash new deck. The track along the ridge from there is overgrown. I haven't been to Motupere for a long time but I see Ledge has left this fairly recent article http://www.tramper.co.nz/?3472

I was thinking of going from up from Hot Springs Rd to Te Rereatukaiha hut, following the ridge south to Motutapere then back to Hot Springs Rd OR going from Thompson's Track, taking the northern track around Mt Eliza then following the ridge south to Kauritatahi and returning by the same route. For both I was aiming for about 4-5 hours each day - last time I was in the Kaimais I only went to Te Rereatukaiha - are the other tracks in the same condition?

most of the tracks are recently cleared and easy to follow quite a bit of work has been done in here over the last 6 to 8 months

For some reason i was thinking of puketutu while describing the conditions at motutapere so deleted those comments the only track i havent been over in the last six months is between te rereatukahia and motutapere but would imagine that with the extensive work done recently that this track wouldnt have escaped DOC.s attention
