Historic hut unavailable for accommodation. The hut was built 1884 for Poporangi Station, and constructed of pit sawn weatherboards. The hut is named for Jack Ellis, a murderer who holed up there in 1904. This hut is the oldest remaining in the Ruahine Ranges.
