This hut now (Jan 2009) boasts 2 wooden bunks with matresses in place of the sack bunks described in 2005. Fireplace (plenty of firewood around) and creek water. A lovely spot at the top of the Ahuriri. Hut in reasonable condition

Ahururi Valley roadend via Ahuriri Valley (old 4wd track)

Sth Temple (via Middle Branch) - 6km (2000m+) alpine route via pass 1km north of hut, 4 hours, 2km bush bashing at Sth Temple end to reach hut

Sth Temple (via North Branch) - 11km, 4 hours - cut marked track to scrubline in sth Temple, then obvious pass into Ahuriri. Good scree ascent / descent.

Sth Huxley via The Notch - steep alpine route, holds snow late in year
