Makomako Hut
Te Urewera
A surprisingly tidy hut at the intersection of Six Foot Track and the track to Mangatoatoa. Like most Uruwera huts, it sits in a large grassy clearing. Sleeps 8 on two platforms, but 11 mattresses present. Hut book shows that the hut suffers from the fallout from the Uruwera politics with plenty of claims of exclusive ownership, and anti-DOC / anti-Pakeha abuse. The remains of another hut outside have been converted into an outdoor fireplace and seating area.
