Walk access begins at the end of the sealed Waiomu Valley Road. The track follows formed gravel road for 600 metres before heading into regenerating bush. Be prepared to get your feet wet as there are several stream crossings. About 25 minutes from the start a short side track leads across the stream to the old Monowai Goldmine battery site. Further up the main track the forest becomes more luxuriant and diverse. A 10 minute climb to the main ridge takes you to a young kauri stand. The track now becomes a tramping track and climbs the ridge for approx 1.5 hrs. 15mins from the doc kauri viewing post are some much bigger examples of kauri worth a stop. At the top of the ridge a track junction its an hour and a bit from here to Crosbies hut via Crosbies clearing. All up a 4 hour walk one way you could choose to spend the night a the new Crosbies hut and enjoy the views or return to Waiomu the same day.
